It’s the smile that lights up a small face when she catches sight of you; tiny hands patting your cheeks as you both recover from a banshee combat; keeping a straight face as a supremely assured voice pipes, ‘don’t worry’ and the offending problem is flicked away by chubby fingers; shrieks of joy at being manhandled, trusting that your hands will never let her fall; giggling over mango smeared mouths as miniscule teeth latch onto the aathi, shaking it like a hysterical puppy; holding a skinny little body against your heart as scrawny arms wrap around your neck, inhaling the sweet scent of innocence; the frenzied look as she plasters herself over your head in an adrenalin surge at the realisation you’re about to leave...
Bright, mischievous eyes brimming with the knowledge of being utterly loved and oh so special. I wonder how much longer she’ll look at me with those eyes. Eyes that believe I’m the best thing since chocolate covered cornflakes, eyes supremely confident in the knowledge that I can fix the world, eyes that trust me to love her always. How much longer before life comes in the way.
Those precious moments that fill you forever are just that. Moments. Sometimes fleeting, sometimes lingering. Time waits for no man, inexorably sweeping away the innocence of those moments, words and deeds eroding your naïve faith. Three moments in time. Three moments that ended the innocence. And that’s why you can never go back. Back to when you believed;
It's amazing how you can speak right to my heart
Without saying a word you can light up the dark
Try as I may I can never explain
What I hear when you don't say a thing
The smile on your face let's me know that you need me
There's a truth in your eyes saying you'll never leave me
The touch of your hand says you'll catch me wherever I fall
You say it best, when you say nothing at all
